Why Mid Century Scandinavian Design
Lots of us would like to fill our homes with unique Designer pieces. It is great that some people can afford to do that. In reality there are many more of us who cant and that is where Lynways can help. In the 1950s and 60s a lot of the Scandinavian manufacturers were still using techniques which gave series production items a studio look. This was achieved by the use of hand decoration and reactive glazes. Glass items were hand blown, if moulds were used the gathering and blowing were all by eye and hand. The use of traditional techniques was also applied to the jewellery that we stock. These techniques mean that you cannot find an identical piece giving you an individual piece of Mid Century Scandinavian Design

Sourcing Mid Century Scandinavian Design
We look for all of these items on our travels through Sweden, Denmark and Norway. If you want to see more from our Scandinavian road trips you can find them on Facebook. Sometimes while we are travelling we find items from Finland , Germany and sometimes the United Kingdom. If they fit with our look, feel and ethos we will bring them back and add them to our stock
Sustainability
It is very important to us than none of our stock is current production in many cases the factories have closed, studios closed or the artists are no longer with us. This means that all of our stock is low impact as we are not adding new production to the world. We do not use shippers all of our stock is collected by us and brought back in re-useable containers. When we send items around the world we use packaging that can be recycled or reused, see our recent article showing how we pack.
We search for Mid Century Scandinavian design to modern pieces that we would have in our home. We feel very strongly that well made and designed pieces should not become landfill.
