Ivan Weiss was born in 1946 at age 16 he was apprenticed at the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Factory between 1962 and 1966 as an overglaze painter under the tutelage of Nils Thorsson the artistic director of the time.
Ivan was in Hagi, Japan between 1970 and 72 where he studied ceramics including throwing and firing. When he returned to Denmark he was employed Royal Copenhagen as a Ceramicist he remained there until 2004 creating ceramics in a separate studio. Ivan still works for Royal Copenhagen on a freelance basis from his own studio where he undertakes a range of commissions and other work. His work has been widely exhibited and is a range of public and private collections including; International Museum of Ceramics, Faenza, Italy, Museum of Decorative Arts, (The Danish Museum of Art & Design), Copenhagen, Victoria & Albert Museum. London, Great Britain.
